Each guide explains how a job is priced, what moves the number, and what your own quote should show. Every figure is an indicative planning range, not a valuation.

- How much do car repairs cost in the UK?Almost every repair bill is two numbers: the parts and the labour hours. Both depend heavily on the exact vehicle, so a figure that looks high for one car can be perfectly normal for another.
- How much does a car service cost in the UK?As an indicative planning range, an interim service commonly costs around £90–£160, a full service around £150–£350 and a major service around £250–£600, before any extra work. The spread comes from the garage's hourly rate, the oil and filters your specific car needs, and whether plugs, fluids or a cambelt fall due at the same time.
Gardening & landscaping
- How much does a driveway cost in the UK?Driveways are priced by area, by what goes under the surface and by how much spoil leaves the site. Two quotes for the same square metres can differ legitimately by thousands if one includes a deeper sub-base, drainage or a permeable build-up.
- How much does a patio cost in the UK?Patio pricing is dominated by three things: the paving you choose, the build-up beneath it, and how materials and spoil get in and out of the garden.
- How much does garden fencing cost in the UK?Fencing is usually priced per bay or per linear metre. The cost difference between quotes normally comes from post type, panel grade, disposal of the old fence and whether concreting is included.
- How much does garden landscaping cost in the UK?A full garden project is several smaller jobs priced together: clearance, levels, hard landscaping, planting and finishing. Breaking the quote back into those parts is the fastest way to understand it.

- How much does a house extension cost in the UK?Extensions are usually discussed as a cost per square metre of new floor area, but the figure only means something once you know what it includes — and what it does not.
- How much does a garage conversion cost in the UK?A garage conversion is usually cheaper per square metre than an extension because the structure already exists — but floors, damp, insulation and heating still have to be brought up to habitable standard.
- How much does a bathroom renovation cost in the UK?Bathroom quotes split into labour, sanitaryware, tiling and services. The labour element is fairly predictable; the fittings are where budgets move most.
- How much does a new kitchen cost in the UK?Kitchen projects have two separate prices: the kitchen itself and the work to install it. Confusing the two is the most common reason kitchen quotes look impossible to compare.
- How much does a new roof cost in the UK?Roofing is priced by area, covering type and access. Scaffolding is a significant separate cost, and a quote that omits it is not comparable with one that includes it.
- How much does a boiler replacement cost in the UK?As an indicative planning range, a straight combi-for-combi swap commonly falls somewhere around £1,800–£3,200 fitted, while a system change, a relocation or a larger output boiler more often lands in the £3,000–£5,500 region. The boiler itself is usually the smaller half of the figure: labour, flue work, controls, flushing and making good carry much of the cost.
- How much does it cost to rewire a house in the UK?As an indicative planning range, a full rewire commonly falls around £3,500–£6,000 for a two-bedroom property, £5,000–£8,500 for a three-bedroom house and £7,000–£13,000 for four bedrooms or more. Most of that is labour and making good rather than cable and accessories.
