How much does a driveway cost in the UK?
Driveways are priced by area, by what goes under the surface and by how much spoil leaves the site. Two quotes for the same square metres can differ legitimately by thousands if one includes a deeper sub-base, drainage or a permeable build-up.
Most UK driveways fall between roughly 25m² and 60m². The visible surface is usually the smaller part of the job: excavation, sub-base, edging, drainage and waste removal typically account for a large share of the total.
Since 2008, new or replacement driveways in England and Wales that drain to the road generally need permeable construction or somewhere on site for water to go. That requirement, where it applies, has a real cost and should appear in the quote.

Do I need planning permission for a driveway?
In England and Wales, a permeable surface, or one draining to a lawn or border, generally avoids the need for planning permission. Check with your local authority, and a dropped kerb is always a separate application.
Is resin bound cheaper than block paving?
Sometimes, but only where the existing base is sound enough to lay over. If a new base is needed, the saving usually disappears.
